The Message Queue

The Message Queue is a consolidated list of all messages from all the sources assigned to your team.

Filters

At the top of the Message Queue is the filter area. Filters help you narrow the list so that you can focus on the messages that matter most at a particular moment.

Filtering by Message Type

You can filter by message type to show only the kinds of messages you want to work with.

For example, you may want to show only:

  • Smart speaker messages
  • WhatsApp
  • SMS
  • Manual producer notes
  • Custom messages (Smart Speakers)

Selecting a filter immediately updates the queue. Selecting the same filter again returns the queue to its unfiltered state.

Click the message type filter again to go back to all messages or whenever any filter is applied click the red CLEAR button to the right of the filter area.

Filtering by Text

You can also filter by text. This allows you to search for words or phrases contained within messages.

For example, you might search for:

  • a topic
  • a song title
  • a competition keyword
  • a contributor name
  • a phrase such as “music” or “hello”

This is a live filter, which means it applies not only to older matching messages but also to new messages arriving while the filter is active.

Additional Filters

Additional filter options may allow you to narrow the queue further, for example by:

  • messaging account
  • messages already used on air
  • messages currently in the On Air Queue
  • messages containing pictures
  • messages containing voice notes

These filters are especially useful during fast-moving programmes, when you need to focus only on a certain category of content.

Clearing Filters

Whenever any filter is active, you can return to the full message list by using the Clear option.

If messages do not appear where you expect them, the most common cause is that a filter is still active or the Message Queue is Paused.

Selecting a Message

Once you have found a message you want to work with, select it.

Selecting a message does two things:

  • it highlights the message and marks it as read
  • it opens the action options available for that item

You can move between selected messages using the up and down arrow keys, or by clicking on another message in the queue.

Along the bottom of the selected message is a row of action keys. These are the tools you use to decide what to do next. You can access them either with the mouse or with the keyboard.

The first action selected by default is On Air so selecting a message and pressing enter will add or remove that message quickly from the Onair Air Queue.
